Even though self-doubt gives an insight on the ways to and not to do something, however, it can hugely affect your life in a negative way when it becomes a weakness. It is normal to experience feelings of self-doubt whenever you’re about to do something. This act often originates from a previous negative experience or failure. It, therefore, brings up feelings of insecurity and uncertainty in a person’s mentality.
So how can you overcome this feeling of self-doubt? Here are seven ways to overcome self-doubt:
Discover your fears
Self-doubt starts from the fear of a particular thing or incident. It starts when we begin to have the fear of making mistakes. You need to think deeply and discover exactly what you are afraid of. Are you afraid of making mistakes? Or are you afraid of failing? It is when you’re able to understand and answer these questions will you be able to know exactly what to do to overcome these fears.
Discovering your fears reduce their relevance or importance. It provides a certain form of confidence to achieve something knowing fully well that your fears don’t matter anymore since they have now been exposed.
Discovering your fears involves a certain level of thinking and the mind is both a risky and beneficial place to do such. When you discover your fears, you arrive at a certain conclusion. But this conclusion of yours may turn futile if you don’t take action.
Taking action on a certain conclusion is one of the ways to overcome self-doubt and unlock your full potential. It will assist in bringing out the hidden confidence and restore your lost self-esteem. When you don’t take action, your thoughts may end up becoming polluted with the feelings of self-doubt that you had earlier eliminated. When you conclude on something, you must be willing to step out of your comfort zone and unleash your full potential.
Stop comparing yourself to others
When you constantly compare yourself to others, you’re robbing yourself of the joy of unleashing your potential. You need to start reminding yourself that everyone has different areas that they’re good and bad at. Your misfortunes shouldn’t always be linked to your friend’s success and you should prevent yourself from always thinking that you failed because you are not good or fit enough.
Think deep and discover the areas that you can also boast of. Think of your achievements and turn them into your strength. The day you stop comparing yourself to others is the day you will attain the highest level of happiness and satisfaction with your whole being.
Keep a journal
When I was having a hard time with my inferiority complex back then, I started keeping and writing in a journal. Whenever something happens to me, when I achieve something, and also when I fail at something or make any mistake, I write it all in my journal. So when my inferiority complex kicks in, I read my journal and if I’m not anywhere close to where my journal is, I shut out my mind and reminisce all that I’ve written in my journal and continue to remind myself of my greatness and achievements until that feeling fades away.
The same goes for the feelings of self-doubt. Keeping a journal is one of the ways to overcome self-doubt. A journal is where all the magical things happen. There is a special link between keeping a journal and building your self-confidence. A journal is where you can keep a record of your achievements which may serve as a reminder to eliminate all feelings of self-doubt in your mind.
There are a lot of pent-up emotions and frustrations that we keep in our minds which can result in stress so a journal is the only place where you can unleash those emotions and frustrations without you being judged, questioned, or reprimanded.
Spend time with positive people
Positive friends promote positive energy and toxic friends promote negative energy. The people you keep around you have a huge influence on the way you see and view yourself. When you keep and spend time with positive people, they will be the ones to encourage and remind you of how great and powerful that you are whenever you are having any feeling of self-doubt.
Spend time with people that see the greatness, talent, and potential in you and not with those that will make you feel unworthy and bad about yourself.

Celebrate your small wins
A baby must take a step before he/she can walk properly. Practice the habit of celebrating your small wins and successes. When a baby takes his/her first step, the parents become elated and ecstatic because they know that their baby has taken its first step and will soon start walking properly. Think of your small wins as a baby’s first step. Give yourself the privilege of experiencing happiness and satisfaction just like how parents feel when their baby takes its first step.
Celebrating your small wins brings about a deep feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment. Don’t wait until you pull off a huge achievement before feeling that you have achieved something.
Stop overthinking and live in the moment.
Self-doubt is a game of ifs and buts which is only a premonition of our imaginations and thoughts. There is no certainty or assurance that what you’ve imagined or are imagining in your head will happen. When you live in the moment and stop overthinking things too much, you’ll be able to choose your actions wisely and decide positively on what you want to do.
You can also practice mindful meditation when you find yourself thinking too much. Mindful meditation is a therapy that will help bring your mind back to the moment. You can just decide to tap your feet continuously on the ground or decide to focus on your breathing. Doing these things will make your thoughts drift away and bring you back to the moment.
