8 Simple Ways to Cultivate a Positive Mindset
Your mindset is a collection of your thoughts and beliefs which also reflects on your attitude and habits. The thoughts that go through your mind affects how you think, feel, and experience life. It is important to take care of your mindset. Below are 8 simple ways to cultivate a positive mindset:
A journal is a safe and secret place to permit yourself to do whatever you want and feel whatever you want to feel. It allows your emotions and feelings to flow without any filter.
When you pour out your feelings in writing, you’re able to discover something about yourself. You’re able to decipher your feelings at a particular moment and discover who you are; both your vulnerable and tough sides. This is because journaling allows you to express all that is on your mind until there is nothing left. Writing your feelings down will not only help to improve positivity but also help to improve your well-being.
Taking note of the things that you have whenever you’re having a hard time can help to reduce stress, increase your self-confidence, and improve your mindset. Practice gratitude once a day and think of the things that you’re grateful for, think about those moments that you feel happy and fulfilled, or think of those things that provide you with comfort and happiness.
Gratitude can be in a verbal or non-verbal form. It can be thanking your friends and families for the supports they’ve shown you, your partner for putting up with your tantrums and for standing by you all the time, or your pet for the love it shows you.
What goes on in your head and mind matters because those thoughts determine what will happen to you in reality. It is important to pay attention and be conscious of your thoughts. You can do that through mindfulness. Mindfulness is the practice of being in the present both physically and mentally. It helps to bring the mind back to the present after it must have wandered off.
Mindfulness gives you the power to control your thoughts and pay attention to the present so that you can be able to manage those thoughts effectively rather than getting overwhelmed by them.
Practice Positive Self-talk
The things you tell yourself will either encourage and motivate you or degrade and limit you. Positive self-talk gives you the confidence to get up when you fall, learn when you make mistakes, and give you the strength to try again when you fail. It is what you tell yourself mentally that will reflect in your attitudes and habits towards yourself and others.
If you believe that your friends will laugh at you if you contribute to their conversation, it will automatically reduce your self-esteem and not give you the right confidence to get social with people around you which is a straight ticket to being a loner.
Be kind to yourself and be positive with your words with others. When you notice yourself having negative thoughts, challenge those thoughts, and start telling yourself positive affirmations daily.
Write down your plans
When you truly desire something, you’d want to make it happen right? The possibility of your desire coming to life depends on the actions that you make to make it happen. Writing down your thinking on how to achieve something that you want will move your focus away from irrelevant thoughts that can prevent you from achieving your desires to thoughts that will propel you towards what you truly want.
When you write down the thoughts and plans about your desires according to how you want to achieve and make them happen, it will automatically convince your mind that your desires have been manifested and achieved even when they’re still dreams. This is only possible because your mind is not in a position to differentiate between a dream and reality. With this, your self-esteem and zeal towards your goal will automatically shoot up which will make your goal to be achieved faster than you’ve envisioned.
Make Positive Friends
Good and true friends are the ones that add value and positivity to your life and their importance cannot be underestimated. Positive friends will help you to reduce stress and make you healthier and stronger. Having friends that extend only positivity and support will bring out the best version of yourself and make you feel good and secure about yourself and improve your well-being and mindset.
Maintaining toxic friendships will only end up crushing your self-esteem and promote negativity. If you don’t know who toxic friends are or what a toxic friend mean? You can check out my post on the signs of a toxic friend.
Positive friends will give you more confidence and improve your mindset positively. Positive friends are difficult to find but when you do, they’ll only end up adding value and positivity to your being.
Create and Stick to New Habits
When you develop and stick to new habits, your mindset improves because your habits reflect on your goal and what you’ve achieved. Creating good habits while dumping the bad ones can be a tough thing to carry out effectively without any problems but know that a life full of goodness and positivity will be hard to get if you don’t create new and good habits for yourself.
Transform your bad habits into good ones and see the amount of success that you can acquire and the change in your mindset.
Get out of your Comfort Zone
Getting out of your comfort zone is a very hard thing to do because while in your comfort zone, your brain is reluctant to change. You feel comfortable in that area that you occupy and your abilities will remain untested. You don’t have to do anything new or subject yourself to any change.
If you constantly challenge and put yourself in situations that may warrant stepping out of your comfort zone, you will have no other choice than to change your mindset. By stepping out of your comfort zone, you’ll be able to discover and learn new things, fulfill a life-long passion of yours, teach you to deal with change, make new friends and meet new people, discover new things about yourself, increase your creativity and improve your personal growth.
When you embrace new changes, it will add more value to your life. It doesn’t happen once, it is a process so if you want to get out of your comfort zone, you need to make changes to your daily routine, volunteer to help others in need, learn something new every day, change your diet plan and exercise more, take some time away from your phone/laptop, the news and social media, identify and face your fears or do something that you’re scared of.
To improve your life, you need to look after your mindset first. You can do that by changing the things you tell yourself to be able to change the way you see and experience life. This is the best self-care that you can offer to your mindset.
Negative thoughts won’t leave in a day, it requires some practice. But when these thoughts start to become too overwhelming, make sure to seek medical help; you can either see a therapist or practice positive psychology.
