How I Started My Blog

I started my blog in February, 2020 to get out of my confined and confused space. I was a girl with a social anxiety disorder and me being scared of a therapist or someone to share my problems with, I started journaling all my feelings to make myself feel better.

I tried journaling on Wattpad but discovered it was a waste of my time, energy and skill. I was planning on moving forward from my problems and stop running away from my fears so I decided that the best way to overcome my fears is to write about them. Then, I started writing on different mental health disorders and providing possible solutions and preventions to them. I wasn’t planning on putting it anywhere, I was simply just writing all these articles on my laptop and notepad with no plans of putting it out there for the world to see.

One of my friends was going through my laptop one day and came across one of my written articles that I had hidden. She then introduced me to the blogger platform and taught me the basic things to learn and how I can go about it to create my very own blog.

Thus, The Mind Relief Blog was born. I had used different names for my blog before finally settling for “Mind Relief” because I felt like the contents of my blog are meant to provide relief to people with problems of the mind and they reading my posts may go a long way in giving them the relief that they so desire.

My Advice to New Bloggers

  • Do whatever makes you happy.

One of my junior colleague while in school chatted me up one day and informed me about a trending entertainment news because I had initially worked on different sites as an entertainment news reporter and I can say that I’m quite great in that aspect as well but one thing I discovered was that I wasn’t at all happy with the job and I was only doing it for the sake of the money involved. So when I told him I wasn’t into that anymore and that I was now into mental health and personal growth stuffs, he told me that I may not get much viewers and engagement on my posts and blog and funny enough, my blog has close to 5k viewers now after abandoning my blog for 5 months when I first opened it. I resumed blogging in July during the lockdown.

The point that I’m trying to portray is that, whatever you want to do or are about to do, make sure that it is something that you know will make you happy. Don’t do things out of compulsion or just because your friends are doing them. Everyone has different tastes and talents.

If you are doing something and you discover that it doesn’t make you happy then it is advisable to desist from it. The beauty of blogging is when you write contents that you know and love. If blogging about beauty and lifestyle is what makes you happy, then go for it. Don’t be intimidated by other people’s niches. Rather choose and take yours and give it your best shot.

  • Take things easy.

Most bloggers are of the notion that it is necessary to post contents on their blog every day. It is not necessary to post contents on your blog every single day, you can just choose a specific time during the week to post contents on your blog.

I post contents on my blog twice in a week and rest during the weekend to recuperate my lost energy and prevent stress.

Also, don’t try to burden yourself with the stress of knowing everything about blogging at once. Learning is a process, take things easy and learn steadily.
