How To Overcome Boredom

 

Feeling bored usually happens when nothing in your environment captures your attention. Boredom increases the stress hormones in the body. 

Boredom is a sign that we’re not meaningfully engaged with the world. We can feel bored even with activities that appear to be meaningful. I don’t think that boredom is caused by a lack of things to do or by a lack of things you want to do. Rather, boredom is a result of not particularly finding out what you want to do. 

Read on to discover the tips that I’ve found to help overcome boredom: 

Figure out what you want to do.

Boredom cuts off the access to knowing your true wants and needs. This could happen when you want to cook food and you discover that the necessary ingredients to be used are not available. This could lead to boredom so whenever this happens, the first thing to do to prevent boredom is to figure out what exactly you want to do. You need to figure out whether you wanted to cook that food or do any other thing like watching your favorite television show. It is better to figure out what you want to do than exerting your time and energy into things that might eventually bore you.

Eradicate Procrastination.

Procrastination is the intentional put off of the doing of something that should be done. It can cause boredom if there aren’t any other distractions to take your mind off of what you want to do. The best thing to do is to eradicate procrastination to deal with boredom or get a task to distract you from the already planned activity to prevent boredom. 

Put off your Boredom. 

Put off your boredom for some time and get productive. Take a look at your to-do list and commit yourself to do one thing before you find something of your interest to do. Being productive and putting off your boredom for a while can help kick the feeling of boredom.

Meditate.

The process of spending time in a quiet thought is known as meditation. Meditation is another way to deal with boredom. Spending an alone time especially when there are holes in your schedules do help to annihilate boredom. 

Meditation is also a healthy strategy to deal with boredom which is quite beneficial to one’s mind. 

Learn Something New. 

Perhaps, what you need is mental stimulation. You can learn something new by reading a book, writing a short story, researching on a topic of your interest online, or better still, practice your artistic skills to get over boredom. 

These are just the tips that I’ve found and suggested for overcoming boredom.

    Boredom strikes most when we are inactive and not feeling there's purpose in our life.

    I love some of the things you've listed, such as learning something new. When we begin to maximize our time and apply new things, not only do we grow, but we also expand our capacity to break limitations.

  2. Overcoming boredom can be a challenge. It’s interesting how we always think of a million things to do when we are crazy busy and then when there is a lull we just start feeling bored and don’t do any of them.
